‘Bang Bang!’ has been one of the silent movies in Bollywood before its release and has not been promoting much. The songs were also not in the limelight, but surprisingly the movie was more than expected. The promotion started off with the banner and the trailers which spoke that the movie was going to be an action movie but there was more to it. Hrithik Roshan who is back with a bang is paired with Katrina in the movie and when a film is high budget like ‘Bang Bang!’ the result is nothing short than bang bang.
The movie starts off with a story of an innocent girl Harleen Sahni (Katrina Kaif) who works as a bank receptionist and does not have an exciting life. In the randomness of her life and blind dating she accidentally meets Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan). Rajveer is extremely charming yet mysterious, who is out on a secret mission and whoever would come in his duty call he would get rid of them. There comes a point where Harleen gets to know about Rajveer identity and starts hating him. But till then she sub-consciously falls in love with him and is not able to leave him. Such situation brings them together and the two engage in a series of action adventure across the world. Whenever she would ask him a question he would engage her in the situation and warn her from before.
Along side all this, enters the villainous Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), who kills the nation loving army officer played by Jimmy Sheirgill, as he doesn’t abide by his terms and conditions. The twists and turns of events lead Harleen to unravel Rajveer’s biggest secret and that is where the story unveils. Who is Rajveer exactly? Why is he dragging Harleen along with him? And what does he really want from Omar Zafar… forms the rest of the story. This film guarantees the adrenaline rush through the medium of super high octane stunts, mega fast car chases and mind boggling action sequences. It is a high budget movie that added to the shoot-outs, bombing that are seen in any action movie. But does ‘Bang Bang!’ match up to the expectations from the movie?
Director Siddharth Anand has made a sleek action packed adventure with a touch of elegance in it. One has to applaud him for making the film that seems to be a perfect blend of grandeur and style. The film’s story travels through Prague, Thailand and Greece among other countries and the idea was to keep a non-compromising approach on the scale of the film while giving the story its due. Hrithik Roshan makes no mistakes in getting his act together and in his role as Rajveer. There’s no denying the fact that he plays the perfect Bollywood hero in this movie, he can dance effortlessly, fight in style and charm the audiences.
His role in ‘Bang Bang!’ seems to be a hundred notches ahead of what he did in ‘Dhoom 2’. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif (who had been paired with Hrithik Roshan earlier as well in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’) supports him well as the leading lady. Overall, she plays her funny quirky character decently. Danny Denzongpa has a small but strong role as the main villain of the film. The other actors like Pawan Malhotra, Javed Jaffrey and Jimmy Sheirgill are holding the story together.
The film’s action sequences are bound to take your breath away. And there is just one person to be credited for this and he is none other than the Hollywood action director Andy Armstrong of The Amazing Spiderman 2 fame. Some of the most remarkable action scenes in the film include Hrithik Roshan driving a F1 car, performing water-skiing after being tied to a sea-plane and doing the death-defying fly board stunts. The movie might be the remake or a copy of a Hollywood but it will definitely be a good watch.
One of the film’s many driving points is melodious music by Vishal Dadlani- Shekhar Ravjiani, which stays with you after the film. It will definitely be in your playlist and it was an added factor to the whole venture. Vishal, who also doubles up as a singer for a couple of songs, really helps the film musically. When you have the dancing god Hrithik Roshan himself, the pressure and expectations really mounts on the choreographers. The choreography of the ‘Tu Tu Meri’ track as well as ‘Bang Bang’ title song is remarkably outstanding. The film’s choreography is equally stunning as well, bit in performances as well as visually.
Overall, the film’s wide release during the long holiday should definitely work in its favor. Add to that, the popular star cast of the film will ensure that the movie sails. If you are looking high-octane action scenes with melodious music and you love masala movies, then ‘Bang Bang!’ is your pick for this extended weekend.
